SALE OF WAYUU HANDBAGS IN RIOHACHA COLOMBIA

We have heard and read some articles about the sales of Wayuu handbags in Guajira, Colombia.

We also know that the wayuu women sell their native handbags front the beach in Riohacha, capital of the Department.

There is also the New Market, another place where merchants resell Wayuu products. In this place, you will find everything from a key ring to a well-crafted “chinchorro” (hammock) that has taken artisans to complete it for several months.

Today we are going to take a few minutes to comment on how the sales the Wayuu handbags are in Guajira-Colombia. This will not be by way of information because there is enough, but by way of experience.

When we arrive at "the first" as Riohacha beach it is commonly known, even if it is only for the purpose of enjoying the sea, it is inevitable to admire the color of the Wayuu handbags that are putting on a platform. There are plenty!

We do not know which one to choose! While we delight in observing each design, the unique patterns and the great color, the Wayuu women continue to weave non-stop. For them, the fact that we buy one or two does not mean profits; or rather, it represents no gain! Why? Because to receive fair income for their work, we would have to pay, they much more than they ask. Some women put a reduced price to sell - But even then, they do not get rid of the "negotiation" of buyers. Well, Always when buying, tourists and all fans make their own offer! There is no doubt that the variety of products that the expert Wayuu women weave invites us to buy. However, which one to choose if all are beautiful!

Tourists and Colombians themselves, like me, who I'm native from Guajira, we cannot ignore that the beauty of Wayuu art is unique throughout the world. I say it with honor because it is a reality. This art does not match the art of other countries. It is true that there are similar weaves in South America and in India for example. However, the uniqueness and exclusivity of each Wayuu design, woven with excellence by female hands, attracts people of all ages.

I invite you to come to the Colombian Guajira, to appreciate our Art. Admire and compare with other similar arts and spread. By doing this, you would be contributing with the expansion. Do you know that in fact it is already being too expanded? However, when you share your own experience, it is a testimony that corroborates what we write.

When you buy a handmade product Wayuu, you receive life. You receive the time that each woman has invested responsibly. For them it is not a burden or a sacrifice to make their weaves, even if it takes hours and hours! They get tired. Of course! However, they enjoy delivering the best. Just because it is an art? Of course not! Because it is a lifestyle. It is a legacy. It is a heritage transmitted from generation to generation and they preserve it faithfully.
